Venice, FL - Hurricane Information Center

venice_hurricane_information_center.jpg

I'm in Florida to attend a high school reunion. The actual reunion is tonight and tomorrow, and I spent part of today catching up with Carl at the old Perkins on 41. Dude. Venice. I'm writing a detailed account of the trip in an article. It promises to be funny and touching, and above all LONG. (It's already twelve pages long, and I just got here last night.)

I have been exchanging text messages with Jake Logan. He's coming down from Gainesville shortly. My wireless plan charges 25c per text message. I should probably change that. I should take a shower. Maybe I'll do that now.

Oh, the photo: that's this device in the Venice Public Library that, get this, is NEW since I was here last (ten years ago). I have never seen this thing before. It's built like an Apple ][e, but enormous, and sitting there in the Reference section. Oh, the library also has a copy of John's book, and I took a picture of it sitting there in the Walter Farley Youth Wing.

That kiosk looks pretty hurricane-proof. Maybe it's a prototype for the hurricane-proof computers of the future.

Aren't you glad I REGISTERED for an account so I can leave comments in your blog?
